Improving product design efficiency with computer simulations

Using advanced computing technology to create virtual prototypes for a hydraulic powder press

Challenge: Building physical prototypes is expensive and time-consuming. It is difficult to test hypotheses and evaluate results due to dangerous and challenging testing environments. It is also hard to isolate the impact of individual parameters while keeping others constant.

Solution: Smart virtual prototyping allows us to simulate the compression of materials accurately. By utilising a high-performance computing (HPC) platform, simulation time is reduced from 3,000 hours to just 300 hours – a tenfold decrease. This approach significantly reduces the cost of product design and shortens the time it takes to bring products to market.
